COLUMBUS, GA — A tragic domestic incident in north Columbus resulted in the death of a woman, her son, and injuries to a grandmother on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Police responded to a residence in the 3600 block of Grier Avenue, near the Columbus Airport, after reports of a shooting in the late morning. Authorities on scene included Columbus Police officers, crime scene investigators, violent crimes detectives, and officials from the Muscogee County Coroner’s Office.
According to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan, 52-year-old Rachel Savage was pronounced dead from a homicide. Her 29-year-old son was pronounced dead from a suicide, and his grandmother was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown campus with a gunshot wound. Her current condition has not been released.
Investigators were observed documenting the scene and speaking with officials, and animal control officers from the Paws Humane Society were also present.
This is the first homicide of 2026 in Muscogee County, and the first since November 2025. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Columbus Police Department.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
